GitHub Release to WhatsApp Alert
Watches a GitHub repository for published releases, looks up the release author's profile, and pushes the version and notes to a WhatsApp chat.
Use this templateWhy use it
Your team ships, the release goes out on GitHub, and nobody outside the repo finds out for hours. Support answers tickets about a bug that was already fixed, QA tests an old build, and the person who cut the release ends up pasting version numbers and changelogs into chat by hand every single time. The people who most need to know a new version is live are the ones least likely to be watching the releases tab.
How it works
- 1GitHub watches the repository you pick and fires the moment a new release is published, handing over the tag or version name and the release notes that came with it.
- 2GitHub is queried again for the profile of the user who published the release, so the alert can credit a real name and handle instead of just a login.
- 3A WhatsApp message goes out through WhatsScale to the chat or group you choose, carrying the version and the release notes so the whole team reads the changelog where they already talk.

Questions
Does this fire for draft releases or plain git tags?
No. The trigger listens for published releases only, so drafts stay quiet until you hit publish, and pushing a bare tag without creating a release will not send anything.
What happens if the release notes are very long?
WhatsApp text messages have a length ceiling, so a huge changelog can get cut off. Teams with long notes usually send a short summary line plus the version and keep the full detail on GitHub.
Can it post to a group chat rather than one person?
Yes. The send step targets whatever chat you point it at, including a group, so a single #releases style group works well for engineering, support and QA at once.
Can I watch several repositories with this?
One copy of the template watches one repository. For a multi-repo product, duplicate it per repository and point each copy at the same WhatsApp chat, or at different chats per team.
Why does it look up the author's profile at all?
So the message can say who shipped it in human terms. That makes it obvious who to ask about a regression without anyone having to open the release page to find out.
Do I need to apply for WhatsApp Business API access first?
No. WhatsScale connects a WhatsApp number you already have, so there is no application or approval period standing between you and the first alert.
